Staci Dennett’s path to become the Budgetista Extraordinaire was paved at an early age, although it was not until later in life that she realized her destiny. Although her current mantra is “Money is FUN!” money was not always a cheery subject for Staci. At an early age she experienced the highs and lows of her parent’s poor money choices. “One day my mom and I went on a shopping spree buying high end designer jeans, but the next day I came home and the electricity was shut off” remembers Ms. Dennett. After several other similar experiences, Staci became well aware that money meant security.
Several years later, as a recent graduate from Warren Wilson College, Staci was determined to use her hard earned money to help her find security, so she went on a hunt for as much information as she could find about personal money management and paying off her student loans. Unfortunately, what she found was very little information geared toward young women and a condescending Financial Advisor. “As I sat in his office, he made me feel stupid that I didn’t understand how the stock market worked. I quickly realized that all he wanted was my money to invest- which I didn’t have very much of – and he was disinterested in helping me learn how to manage my day-to-day expenses,” recalls Ms. Dennett. It was this experience that led Staci on a journey to discover her own financial strength.
For months, Staci budgeted, she saved, she bargain hunted and she crunched numbers until she knew down to the penny how she would reach her money goals and pay off her debt. Using the knowledge she gained, she started helping friends and family take control of their own money as well. After helping her mother find a way off of her money roller coaster, Staci realized that there must be thousands of other women who are searching for answers to their own money questions, but they are tired of being made to feel stupid that they don’t know the answers. It was at this moment that Staci realized her destiny was to be an ally to hard working women who are actively seeking answers to their pressing money questions. In June 2011, Penny Wise was born with a mission to empower women to reach their financial goals. As a Budgetista Extraordinaire, Staci enjoys bringing a little sparkle to the financial world by being the cheerleader women need to help them overcome money challenges and reach their financial and life goals.
